In 1931, at the age of 17, Jack Leonardo established First Shoe Repair Store in
Rochester, NY.
Jack moved his family, and his business, to Delmar's Four Corners in 1938. The new shop was christened Delmar Bootery. Jack's wife Jessie worked by his side.
Delmar Bootery quickly became well-known for its exceptional shoe and leather goods repair and its high-quality shoes. After Jack died in 1970, Jessie took over the business.
When Jessie broke her neck in a car accident in 1976, her daughter, Gail Leonardo Sundling took the helm. Jessie spent a year recovering and against all odds, came back to the work she loved.
After Jessie's death in 2001, Gail and her daughter, Mandy Young, became the latest generations to carry on the Leonardo legacy. In 1988, the store moved to its present location in Stuyvesant Plaza. The Delmar store closed in 2000.
Mandy now manages the store with a dedicated staff of sales people and leather repair experts. In addition to repair services, Delmar Bootery also sells a wide array of shoes, purses, and other quality leather goods, as well as shoe care products and orthotics.
